Common bird inthe southeastern part of China and Hongkong, the species has recently beenvisiting Japan, including neighbouring Akiruno City and along Tama River ofHachioji and Hino Cities. First observation of the species in this area wasin October, 2010, at Ohtarumi. As its Japanese name suggests, its face isdark, and slightly bigger than Hwamei of the same family.@   According tothe database of invasive alien species of the National Institute forEnvironmental Studies, the species was first identified at Miura Peninsulain 1988, with its distribution covering Iwate, Gunma, Saitama, KanagawaPrefectures and Tokyo Metropolitan Area. Specified as the invasive alienspecies by Invasive Alien Species Act (2004).
