Winter Visitor
Common wintervisitor to open lowland woods and riverbeds of Asakawa River basin. Visitingperiod is approximately between November and April next year. Looks similarto Meadow Bunting, but the species’ Male has black crown and whitishunderparts in summer plumage, and chestnut back streaked black. Upperpartsof Male stronger reddish brown than Meadow Bunting.　Female’s plumage is morelight-coloured than Male’s winter plumage. (Juvenile male’s plumage issimilar to Female’s.) Both Male and Female have distinctive short crest.Feed on the ground in a flock of several to more than a dozen.
