The species is a popular wild bird in AsakawaRiver basin. In autumn, its high-pitched shriek is heard here and there |one of the charming autumnal sights of Japan. This voice is given to displayterritorial behaviour, and both sexes display them. sometimes preys on small animals and birds; it is primarily ameat-eater. At times impales prey on pointed twigs or attaches it betweenbranches for reasons not fully understood.
