One of themost representative hawks and eagles in the Asakawa River basin. Adultfsbreast closely barred and finely barred underwings look whitish in wholethat sometimes helps identification of the bird from afar. Mainly forages onsmall birds and animals, but sometimes seizes Little Egret and ducks. Quiteoften a Northern Goshawk is mobbed by crows in the air. The Red List of theMinistry of the Environment (Revised in 2006) designates the hawk as NearThreatened Species (NT).
