One of the white egrets found in Asawaka River basin; the species is smallerthan Great Egret and larger than Little Egret, as the name suggests. UnlikeGreat Egret and Little Egret, the observation period of the species by ourSociety at Asakawa River basin is generally between June and October. Nobreeding of the species is confirmed in this area. Takatsuki Paddy Field,located in the northeastern part of Hachioji City, records the visit ofseveral birds every year.
