Smallest grebe in Japan . The bird makes its habitat at stagnation of stream or in a pond. Can be found in the Asakawa River throughout the year. The only species of Podicipedidae family who breeds in Asakawa River basin, Little Grebefs juvenile with its striped face and neck is sometimes seen in the basin. Often makes its diving, and bobs up at an unexpected distance.
Male and Female look alike, and Adultfs chestnut cheek and neck is conspicuous during summer plumage. Often located by a loud whinning trill "Kirik- Kirik-Kirik."
